Barbados Museum and Historical Society (St. Ann’s Garrison, St. Michael Parish) – this museum, housed in a former 19th century military prison, is now a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the island’s capital, Bridgetown. The displays here include: artifacts of the Amerindians (the early inhabitants of the Caribbean islands); Children’s Gallery ‘Yesterday’s Children’ which provides an exciting and educational travel back into history; furnishings of an 18th century plantation house; a collection of rare historical maps of the island; and a reference library which is available for research on the island’s history and genealogy. Admission: BD$ 15 (adult), BD$7.50 (child) (free admission for all CARICOM nationals, with ID) Hours: Monday to Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sundays 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
