Port Royal

Port Royal (Norman Manley Highway, south of Kingston) – located just west of Kingston international airport (on a thin peninsula south of Kingston city), the history of this port goes back to the piracy period of the 17th century. The waters surrounding the current Port Royal area is an archeological treasure trove, due to the fact that portions of that area (as much as 2/3 of it) were destroyed by earthquakes in 1692 and 1907. One section that still remains is Fort Charles, which tourists can see nowadays, along with one of the structures (The Giddy House) that tilted sideways during the 1907 earthquake. Admission: US$10 (which includes a tour by local guides).
