St. Nicholas Abbey
St. Nicholas Abbey (St. Peter Parish) – located in the northeast part of the island (on the borderline between St. Peter and St. Andrew Parishes – near Cherry Tree Hill), this is just one of three intact Jacobean plantation houses left in the Americas, and this is the only one open to the public. Nicely restored, it’s also the site of a small but working rum distillery. Admission: BD$35 (adult) BD$20 (children). Price includes a complimentary drink (fruit or rum punch – for adults only).
Hours: 10 am – 3:30 pm (Sunday – Friday). Visit its website for info on upcoming events: https://stnicholasabbey.com Note: rum drinkers will have a special reason for visiting St. Nicholas Abbey. One of just four distilleries in Barbados, its Plantation has shunned mass production and complex mechanical systems in favor of the traditional distillation process that made Barbadian rum famous over 350 years ago.
